Solar and EV installation calculator: cost per installation

Site surveys cost money, and many never turn into a sale. Follow a month of leads through surveys, accepted quotes and subsidy or finance approval to installation, and see the cost per installation, the profit each one leaves, and the cash waiting on subsidies.

    How this is calculated
    1. Ad leads = ad spend ÷ cost per lead, or (ad spend ÷ cost per click) × click to lead rate. Leads = ad leads + leads from other channels. Spend = ad spend + other channels.
    2. MQLs = leads × % MQL. SQLs = MQLs × % that book. Site surveys done = SQLs × % that happen. Accepted = site surveys done × % accepting. Approved = accepted × % approved. Installations = approved × % installed.
    3. Cost per lead = spend ÷ leads. Marketing cost per site survey = spend ÷ site surveys done. Site survey costs = site surveys done × cost of one site survey. Site survey-to-sale = installations ÷ site surveys done × 100.
    4. Cost per installation = (spend + site survey costs) ÷ installations. Gross profit per installation = project value × gross margin. Profit per installation = that − cost per installation.
    5. Paid later = installations × project value × % paid later. Cash waiting at any time = that × days until it arrives ÷ 30 (a month's installations for every 30 days of waiting).
    6. Referred leads = installations × leads referred per customer. They go through the same funnel: referred installations = referred leads × % MQL × % booking × % happening × % accepting × % approved × % installed; their site surveys = referred leads × % MQL × % booking × % happening.
    7. Referral value = referred installations × gross profit per installation − their site surveys × cost of one site survey.
    8. Sales = installations × project value. Gross profit = sales × gross margin. Profit = gross profit − spend − site survey costs. With referrals = profit + referral value.

Green, amber and red compare each result with the break-even your own numbers imply, never with an outside benchmark. Every starting number is an editable example, not an industry average.

    Questions

    About this calculator

An MQL is a lead whose roof, power use and budget fit, where the owner (not a tenant) decides. An SQL is a site survey booked for a date. Counting both shows whether leads are lost on fit or on the first call.

This month's installations × project value × the part paid to you later gives what arrives later. Multiplied by the days until it arrives ÷ 30, it is the cash waiting at any time if you install at this pace. Set the part paid later to 0 if customers pay you in full and claim any subsidy themselves.

Referred leads go through the same funnel at your own rates, so they are not counted as sure sales. Their site surveys are costed too. Change "Leads one happy customer refers" to match what you see.

No. They are starting values only, so the page is not empty. Replace them with your own from your lead register, survey schedule and project records.
